Quem nunca teve uma experiência frustrante ao pesquisar músicas para download no google. Eu mesmo, sempre que não encontro em outros sites específicos de downloads, recorro ao google.Não estou querendo fugir do foco deste blog (dicas de inglês), pelo contrário, gostaria de falar sobre um ótimo método de aprendizado da lingua inglesa que é através da música. Escutar músicas em inglês é uma boa opção para melhorar as habilidades linguísticas.
Hoje descobri uma ferramenta de busca de arquivos mp3, o Discovery music. Basta digitar o nome da música e ele faz uma pesquisa por downloads (e não por letras, cifras ou sites para comprar a música ou CD).

A man gets a telephone call from a doctor. The doctor says: About this medical test I did on you, I have some good news and some bad news.
The man asks for the good news first:
The good news is that you have 24 hours to live, says the doctor.
The man, incredulously: If that is the good news, then what is the bad news??
I couldn't reach you on the phone yesterday...

Joke: "Happy couple"
A couple is lying in bed.

O que é Wishful Thinking?
O que significa a expressão Wishful Thinking?
Esses dias esbarrei com essa expressão e levei um bom tempo tentando encontrar seu significado. Enfin, não consegui uma tradução precisa e então recorri a alguns amigos nativos que tentaram me explicar com um exemplo bem simples.
Quem me ajudou foi o meu camarada Freddie, da Austrália. Segue sua explicação:
“Yes. I can certainly explain what wishful thinking mean. And yes, it is a common phrase in ALL English speaking countries. Here's an example: Lets say, I was walking along with my friend Gabriel in the city and we saw a travel advertisement to Rio de Janeiro - from Sydney return trip only $2000. My friend Gabriel says, "Hey, let's go to Rio. We can party all day, play guitar at the beach, hang out with beautiful people and drink cocktails at sunset!!! Common, let's do it!!!"
But I know that my friend Gabriel does not have any money. In this case I can say, "Yeah sure Gabriel, you're wishful thinking!"

The verb is just "thinking", and the adverb is "wishful". Your thoughts are full of wishes: You wish you were on holiday at Rio, and drinking, and playing the guitar...etc.
And if I say to you, Gabriel, I'm gonna be fluent in Portuguese in two months. Then you can tell me: "Freddie, you're wishful thinking!!!" Because languages require practice.

Trocando em miúdos o que o nosso amigo explicou, podemos entender essa expressão como uma espécie de desejo-fantasia, sonho, subjetivismo, ilusão, fora da realidade, excesso de otimismo, etc.
Por exemplo: O rapaz termina com sua linda namorada pra ficar com outra mulher mais velha, experiente, etc. Logo, numa conversa com a pobre menina, ela diz:
“I thought he would come back to me, but I guess it was just wishful thinking.”
(Eu pensei que ele iria voltar pra mim, mas acho que não passou de uma ilusão, eu sou muito boba mesmo em acreditar que isso seria possível).
